The Functional Medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address chronic disease and promote optimal wellness.
Functional medicine asks how and why illness occurs, and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual.
This patient-centered approach is respectful of each individual patient’s preferences, needs, and values, and then ensures patient compliance. When the patient is an active participant in the development of their therapeutic plan it gives them more control of their own well-being, and they are more likely to make sustained lifestyle changes.
Functional Medicine treatments include a combination of nutrition and lifestyle modification, natural supplements, health coaching, lab testing, and education of the patient, which empowers them to take charge of their own health.
Why Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine has its roots in European traditions. Our specialty in health care is German Naturopathic Metabolic Internal Medicine – or what is now known in America as “Functional Medicine”. Functional Medicine is, in essence, German Naturopathic Family Medicine.
